East Norriton, PA (November 12, 2021) – Suburban Community Hospital, a member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, received an “A” grade in the Fall 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Suburban Community Hospital’s achievements in protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

Impressively, Suburban Community Hospital had achieved the ‘A’ rating in Fall 2019 of the Leapfrog Hospital Safety grade.

“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce of Suburban Community Hospital for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

“Safe, high-quality patient care is a priority of Suburban Community Hospital,” said Jim Hazlett, chief nursing officer of Suburban Community Hospital. “This A-grade is a reflection of longstanding commitment by staff, physicians and hospital leadership to keep our patients in the forefront and best-practices in place for exceptional outcomes.”

Michael Motte, chief executive officer of Suburban Community Hospital, added,

“This recognition is a reflection of our dedicated team of doctors, advanced providers, nurses and support staff, and the amazing work they do every day to provide safe and compassionate care.”

Hazlett added, “As a safety champion, I’ve been asked to help spread the safety tools that our organization has created.” They look at our overall safety structure, that includes hospital-acquired infections, handwashing rate, and our overall infection rate in the hospital. This year, more than ever, families need to know their loved ones are in good hands.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
