Suburban Community Hospital named among top 10 acute care hospitals in the nation by the Lown Institute

Ranked top hospital in Pennsylvania for Social Responsibility and Top 5 for Patient Safety and Inclusivity

East Norriton, PA – July 09, 2024 – Suburban Community Hospital, a member of the Prime Healthcare Foundation, has been recognized by the Lown Institute as one of the top ten acute care hospitals in the nation. Suburban Community Hospital achieved “Honor Roll” status among the most socially responsible hospitals in America, receiving “A” grades in Equity, Value, and Outcomes on the 2024-25 Lown Institute Hospitals Index.

Out of more than 3,500 hospitals measured by Lown, only five percent achieved honor roll status for achieving the highest scores on measures of equity, value, and outcomes.

Suburban ranked sixth nationally amongst 2,758 acute care hospitals and number one among 127 hospitals in Pennsylvania in the Social Responsibility metric. According to the Index, the hospital performed exceptional on Health Equity, Value of Care, Patient Outcomes, Clinical Outcomes, Patient Safety, Inclusivity, Avoiding Overuse, and Cost Efficiency.

“Great care is only great if everyone can access it,” said Vikas Saini, MD, president of the Lown Institute. “We need hospitals that are not only leaders in clinical care, but also strong community partners—and these socially responsible hospitals are showing the way.”

“Receiving the esteemed Lown Index accolades fills us with pride, and we thank our dedicated staff and physicians for achieving this national recognition,” said Michael Motte, CEO of Suburban Community Hospital. “This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional and compassionate care and ensuring health equity in the communities we serve. We are driven by our mission to provide clinically excellent care to all members of the community and are fully committed to meeting their needs, today and well into the future.”

The Lown Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility is the only ranking to combine metrics of health equity and value of care alongside patient outcomes, for more than 2,700 acute care and 800 critical access hospitals nationwide, offering a holistic view of hospitals as total community partners. In the fifth annual rankings, the 2024-25 Lown Index evaluates hospitals on over 50 measures including novel metrics such as community benefit, racial inclusivity, and avoidance of overuse. Data sources include Medicare fee-for-service and Medicare Advantage claims, CMS patient safety data and hospital cost reports, and IRS 990 forms, among others.
