Suburban Community Hospital among best in the nation at serving its patients and community, according to healthcare independent think tank

East Norriton, PA (JULY 16, 2024)— Suburban Community Hospital, a proud member of Prime Healthcare Foundation, has been recognized by the Lown Institute as one of the most socially responsible hospitals in America, receiving “A” grades in Equity, Value, and Outcomes on the 2024-25 Lown Institute Hospitals Index. Out of more than 3,500 hospitals measured by Lown, only 5% achieved honor roll status, with Hospital ranking among this select group of high performers. .

Suburban ranked sixth nationally amongst 2,758 acute care hospitals and number one among 127 hospitals in Pennsylvania in the Social Responsibility metric.

“Great care is only great if everyone can access it,” said Vikas Saini, MD, president of the Lown Institute. “We need hospitals that are not only leaders in clinical care, but also strong community partners—and these socially responsible hospitals are showing the way.”

As per the Index report, the hospital has demonstrated strong performance in Lown’s Social Responsibility category and has secured a position in the Top 5 for Patient Safety and Inclusivity. These are independent rankings and hospitals do not apply or pay to be listed.

“Receiving the esteemed Lown Index accolades fills us with pride, and we thank our dedicated staff and physicians for achieving this national recognition,” said Michael Motte, CEO of Suburban Community Hospital. “This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional and compassionate care and ensuring health equity in the communities we serve. We are driven by our mission to provide clinically excellent care to all members of the community and are fully committed to meeting their needs, today and well into the future.”

Suburban Community Hospital received prestigious recognition from the Lown Index last year for being one of the most socially responsible hospitals in the United States. The hospital was awarded “A” grades in Health Equity, Value, and Outcomes on the 2023-24 Lown Institute Hospitals Index. Additionally, Suburban Community Hospital excelled in various areas including Health Equality, Value of Care, Patient Outcomes, Clinical Outcomes, Patient Safety, Inclusivity, Avoiding Overuse, and Cost Efficiency. Moreover, the hospital ranked in the Top 5 in Pennsylvania for Social Responsibility and Inclusivity on the 2023-2024 Index.

The Lown Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility is the only ranking to combine metrics of health equity and value of care alongside patient outcomes, for more than 2,700 acute care and 800 critical access hospitals nationwide, offering a holistic view of hospitals as total community partners. In the fifth annual rankings, the 2024-25 Lown Index evaluates hospitals on more than 50 measures including novel metrics such as community benefit, racial inclusivity, and avoidance of overuse. Data sources include Medicare fee-for-service and Medicare Advantage claims, CMS patient safety data and hospital cost reports, and IRS 990 forms, among others.
