Radiologist Penn Tong, MD Joins Prime Healthcare Pennsylvania Region

Prime Pennsylvania Region (January 05, 2023) –Penn Tong, MD, board-certified diagnostic radiologist, has joined Prime Healthcare Pennsylvania Region.

Dr. Tong specializes in both Interventional and Diagnostic Radiology. Dr. Tong is trained to interpret and utilize medical imaging technology to diagnose and treat many different types of diseases and disorders.

Dr. Tong comes to Prime Healthcare Pennsylvania Region from Grand View Hospital in Sellersville, PA, where he has practiced since 2019. In private practice, he provided diagnostic interpretations and interventional procedures for the Grand View Health System.  Before this role, Dr. Tong worked at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital from 2018-2019 and at Hahnemann Hospital from 2014-2019.

Dr. Tong has teaching experience training medical students and resident physicians in Diagnostic Radiology.

He has held numerous leadership and administrative positions, including chief resident, resident house staff representative and presenter and mentor of the Radiology Department at Hahnemann Hospital, under the Drexel Radiology residency program. While attending Drexel University College of Medicine, he was captain of intramural football, basketball, and tennis sports leagues.

“Dr. Tong brings over nine years of diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology experience to our medical imaging team,” said Dr. Mathew Mathew, CMO of Suburban Community Hospital. “His expertise will be an incredible asset to our medical staff and further enhance quality care for the patients and residents we serve.”

Dr. Tong received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, completed an internship at Lehigh Valley Hospital Network in Allentown, PA, a residency at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, and was in the Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) residency program. He also finished a fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. While in school, Dr. Tong volunteered as a translator at Jefferson Hospital, assisting patients with medical appointments and filling out medical forms. He also volunteered with a Medical Mission in Senegal, Africa, where he shadowed and practiced numerous medical procedures in small villages and was head of the wound-care station.

Dr. Tong has been featured in academic presentations, including the Journal of DrexelMed following the inadvertent placement of the central line into the right subclavian artery placement, Drexel Research Day Symposium poster presentation on IVC Filter and Finding of “Sixty Five Roses” in Different Radiographic Modalities, International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy, and Drexel Research Day Symposium for “Treatments Options in an Adult with Extensive Deep Vein Thrombosis.”

Dr. Tong holds licensure in The United States Medical Licensing Examination® (USMLE®) 1-3 and Step 2 CK (“Clinical Knowledge”) and CS (“Clinical Skills”), the American Board of Radiology (ABR) core EXAM and the computer-based Certifying Exam. He also has his American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS).

Dr. Tong is “committed to supporting the medical staff and delivering high-quality care and service to the community,” he stated.

Outside work, Dr. Tong enjoys tennis, racquet sports, golf, poker, traveling, piano, painting, board games, following local sports teams, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
